UP Groom Stops ‘Baraat’ To Join Protestors Demanding Medical College Construction

I absolutely love the wedding season. And the best part of desi weddings is the baraat. It is a different level of entertainment watching the groom awkwardly sitting on a horse while his friends indulge in some good old ‘naagin’ dance below. It is expected of a wedding procession to pay absolutely no heed to the building traffic behind them!

What isn’t expected is for the groom to stop the wedding procession midway so that he can join an ongoing protest, and that’s exactly what happened in Uttar Pradesh recently.

According to a report by India Today, a groom from Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba halted his wedding procession to join a group of protestors on hunger strike. The group had been on an indefinite hunger strike in demand for a medical college to be constructed in that area.

“A groom was heading out for his wedding and when he saw us and after enquiring about our demands, joined us. The groom supported us and stated that Mahoba needs a medical college,” said one of the protestors.

They revealed that after voicing his support, the groom went ahead with his procession and tied the knot later that night.

While it is disappointing to see how certain places are denied educational institutes and the people have to protest for their right to education, it is also touching to see how the groom set aside some time off his special day to lend his support to the protestors.
