10 Highly Anticipated Films That Never Got Released

Films have become an integral part of our lives. Though every year hundreds of films are released yet there are some films for which we all eagerly await. Be it because of their plot or cast, these films create a hype even before they are released. But then, there have been films which did manage to create a hype but somehow could not manage to come to the theatres.

Here is list of 10 such films:
 

1. Munnabhai Chale America

Lack of proper script and Dutt’s legal issues sealed the fate of this film

Munnabhai Chale America was supposed to be the third film of the Munnabhai franchise. This film, just like the previous two films, had Sanjay Dutt in the lead and Arshad Warsi was set to reprise the role of Circuit.

The trailer of this film was released way back in 2010 but somehow the film didn’t make it to the screens.

Although this film never made it to the theatres, there is still some good news for you. Raju Hirani is actually planning to make ‘Munnabhai 3’, with the same cast but with a different story line.

2. Xtreme City

The project never really took off

Way back in 2011, it was reported that if all goes well, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be seen sharing screen space with Leonardo DiCaprio.

The film was supposed to be a tale of two men from radically different worlds. American filmmaker Martin Scorsese was supposed to produce the film with David Weisman. Well, the sad news is, this project never really took off.

3. Taalisman

The film soon ran into financial problems and the project was ultimately shelved

Some of you might have even seen its trailer. This film was supposed to be the magnum opus of Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan.

The film was supposed to be a romantic fantasy adventure film, based on the epic novel Chandrakanta. The film soon ran into financial problems and the project was ultimately shelved.

4. Koochie Koochie Hota Hai

The film has been postponed time and again, for one reason or another

This film was supposed to be a kind of animated spin-off of our favourite film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Shahrukh, Kajol and Rani were on board with the project. It was supposed to be produced by Karan Johar and directed by Vishal Sonawane and Tarun Mansukhani.

Although the trailer of this anticipated film was released way back in 2010, the film itself is still on hold. Well, if rumours are to be believed then, producer Karan Johar might try to release the film on the 20th anniversary of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

5. Paani

Creative differences between the producers and the director created a deadlock

Paani was supposed to be Shekhar Kapur’s dream project. Kapur had roped in Sushant Singh Rajput as the lead in his futuristic take on Romeo and Juliet. The film is currently being shelved and it is highly unlikely, that it will ever see the light of the day.

Shekhar has been planning Paani for 9 years now.

6. Dus

The director died halfway through filming, leaving the film incomplete

If you are a Salman Khan or a Sanjay Dutt fan, then this might make you sad. Dus was supposed to be an action film with Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt in the lead. It was supposed to be directed by Mukul S. Anand.

But sadly, the director died halfway through filming, leaving the film incomplete. The film was also had Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty. Model Rahul Dev was to make his debut with this film.

7. Devaa

Ghai and Bachchan had some serious creative differences and the project was abandoned

This film was probably one of the most awaited films of its time. For the first time, you had two stalwarts of the industry, Subhash Ghai and Amitabh Bachchan working together.

Shammi Kapoor was also supposed to play one of the important characters in the film. Sadly, the film never made it to the theaters.

Time Machine was a film that was actually way ahead of its time. It was supposed to be directed by Shekhar Kapur and had Aamir Khan in the lead. It was supposed to be sci-fi film dealing with time travel.

9. Let’s Catch Veerappan

The sandalwood mafia got killed before the film’s release and RGV had no option but to shelve the film

If you have seen a Ram Gopal Verma film, then you would know that Verma has a kind of obsession with dark subjects. He wanted to make a black comedy about a team that wanted to catch Veerappan. Sadly, the sandalwood mafia was killed before the film’s release and he had to shelve the film.

Well, he is back again with a film called Veerappan, which is a kind of a biopic.

10. Zameen

The producer ran out of money and the film remained incomplete

This film was supposed to be Ramesh Sippy’s magnum opus. It had one of the best cast you would have ever seen in a Bollywood film. The film had Vinod Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi.

Nearly half of the film was shot before the producer ran out of money.
