Before You Plan Your Trip To Thailand, You Should Know About Its “Murder Island”

Set on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Tao is a popular island among British backpackers and is often called a backpacker’s haven. While the stunning views, crystal water, and lush green vegetation will mesmerize your heart and refresh your soul, there is a dark side hidden behind the idyllic setting of Koh Tao.

The island is also known as “the murder island” for brutal deaths of many backpackers under mysterious circumstances from last three years.

The latest victim of the notorious death island is Elise Dallemange, a 30-year-old backpacker from Belgium, who has become the seventh tourist found dead on Thailand’s Koh Tao island in the last three years.

She was found dead in the jungle of the “murder island” , wrapped in t-shirts and half-eaten by lizards.

Elise was living at a yoga and tantra retreat, set close to the moon-party island of Koh Phangan, in between travelling round Asia for two years.

She was part of Sathya Sai Baba Cult Movement and was to leave the island on April 17th. However, she was found dead on 28th of April in a horrible state by the locals, who noticed a monitor lizard trailing back and forth to the jungle.

Elise is long gone, but her devastated mother is fighting for providing justice of her deceased daughter.

While the local police has claimed that Elise had hung herself, possibly after having eaten by the lizard, Elise’ s mother says she believes that somebody else was involve. She suspects that the authorities are desperately trying to suppress the matter since many gruesome deaths have taken place on the same island.

She told Der Farang magazine that she hasn’t even received the autopsy report from the authorities.

“Once you’ve been living there for a while, you’ll turn a blind eye to some pretty sketchy stuff,” says Mike Earley, 30, from New Zealand, who spent six months on the island working as a DJ as told to Mirror.

Apart from Elise, other tourists named Brits Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were also brutally murdered as they walked back to their hotel rooms in September 2014. Luke Miller, bricklayer from the Isle of Wight, was also found dead in a swimming pool in 2016. Likewise, Christina Annesley, Nick Pearson, Valentina Novozhyonov and Dimitri Povse are other tourists who died in bizarre ways.

While the families of these deceased backpackers are struggling to bring out the truth about their loved ones’ death, this is what the police around the area has to say,”This news is so old already, it has been misunderstood. There is no more to say.”

It’s fascinating to know how all these people have died mysteriously without any evidence. While the truth about this island is unknown, we pray for these souls to rest in peace.
