‘The Movie Is Pretty Much In Favour Of Feminism’ – Tanishaa Mukerji Calls ‘Animal’ Pro-Feminist

After Animal hit the theatres, a large section of the audience raised serious concerns about the treatment of women in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s films. They seemed to think that his films degraded women, where the female characters were subjected to violence and abuse and were tangled in problematic romantic relationships.

However, actor Tanishaa Mukerji seems to think otherwise. In an interview with Firstpost, she claimed that the film was in no way anti-feminist and endorsed equality at all levels. She went on to give examples of how Ranbir’s character was very much in favour of feminism.

“Well, my take on Animal is that it wasn’t an anti-feminist film at all. In fact, I truly feel that it was a film that endorses equality on many levels. the way Ranbir’s character makes a small gesture by putting on the shoes for his wife Rashmika during their honeymoon is so interesting and heartwarming. How many men in India will actually bow down to their wives and do that? So, I thought it was beautiful and the movie is pretty much in favour of feminism and so is Ranbir’s character,” she said.

Tanishaa Mukerji went on to add:

“I know a lot of women who perhaps won’t see the movie thinking it’s anti-women. But I genuinely feel they need to see the movie because it’s not anti-women by any means.”

According to her, the film is pro-feminism because Ranbir’s character tells Rashmika’s character that she should be married to someone of her choice and not her parents. Apparently, telling a woman to choose the strongest man who can protect her is the “height of feminism”.

“I also feel it was very pro-feminism especially because of that scene where Ranbir tells Rashmika that you are getting married to someone just because of the choice of your parents. Whereas, in the olden days, women used to choose the strongest men because they used to fight, kill, and show their strength and worthiness. At that time, the women used to choose and what else can be superior to that? That’s truly the height of feminism. Telling a woman to choose the strongest man who can protect and take care of you is the best thing ever.”

Some people’s ideas about feminism are incredibly flawed and surface level and it shows.
