One of my favourite genres of TV shows and movies is crime. Having grown up watching multiple iterations of CSI and of course, our very own CID, crime shows just remind me of the after school evenings. Yeah, I was a weird kid. Not that much has changed now that I’m technically an adult. I can still binge on Dexter and How To Get Away With Murder all weekend.
However, never did I imagine that someone would plan a real-life murder based on videos from the internet. Yet, as it turns out, someone did.
A 34-year-old man from Tamil Nadu downloaded and watched over 50 videos on how to commit a murder without getting caught, in preparation for his wife’s murder.
D Ramadass tried to make the murder of his 28-year-old wife Pushpa, look like a case of accidental drowning in a pond while bathing. Ramadass, who has been a resident of Mumbai for nearly 20 years, married his wife four years ago.
However, things were not fine between the couple, as Pushpa used to frequent her maternal home in a village near Thirupalapandal every time they had a fight.
Ramadass took this as an indication that his wife was having an affair with her neighbour back home. As a result of this suspicion, he started plotting to kill her and pass it off as an accidental death.
On the 15th of this month, police recovered Pushpa’s body from a pond in her village. Initially, everyone assumed it was a case of drowning.
Though Ramadass maintained the same for a few days, he later cracked during interrogation. According to the Mumbai Mirror, the Villupuram superintendent of police S Jayakumar said that when the police examined his phone, they noticed that several videos had been recently deleted.
When a recovery software was used on the phone, the police were shocked to find 52 videos on how to kill a woman without being traced back to the crime.
In his confession, the culprit said that he had stuffed his wife’s mouth with mud before drowning her, among other things. Pushpa was three months pregnant and they already have a 2-year-old, who he had named after his concubine from Mumbai.
There’s nothing you can’t find on the internet anymore. Online tutorials are a great resource if used right. However, videos such as the ones in this case should be properly monitored and removed.
