Swastika Mukherjee Calls Out Cyber Bullies Who Sent Her Rape-Threats, Gets Them Arrested

After actress Rhea Chakraborty demanded action against a social media user who sent her rape and death threats, Swastika Mukherjee has revealed that she too received acid attack and rape threats on Instagram after a false story surfaced.

The Indian Express quoted her saying, “On June 26, days after my co-actor in the upcoming movie Dil Bechara Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death, there was a media report which falsely quoted me as saying that suicides are now in fashion. Following this, there were fierce online attacks on me, including rape and death threats.”

Hindustan Times quoted her adding that she took up the matter with the Kolkata Cyber Crime department and now the person behind the fake news (Shuvam Chakraborty from Galsi, Bardhaman, Bengal), as well as the cyberbully (Koushik Das from Hooghly), have been arrested.

She urged others to stop ignoring online hate and seek help from the authorities by saying, “Cyber-bullying is not acceptable. If it is happening with you, please speak up and expose the cyber-bullies. The police and other law enforcement agencies will help you to the best of their abilities.”

We hope this serves as a lesson to all those who are spreading rumours and negativity online.
