12 YO Khushi From Surat Gives Up School & ‘Worldly Pleasures’ To Become A Jain Monk!

Generally, a 12-year-old’s life is all about school, play, friends, and family. They seldom think about the future, career and most importantly salvation! But, 12-year-old Khushi Shah from Surat has decided to walk on the path of simple living to attain peace in life and salvation.

“The pleasures we enjoy here aren’t permanent as this world is temporary and it will remain so. The only way to peace and salvation is to lead a simple life,” says Khushi.

Khushi was inspired to take this step by other family members who chose the same path reported Mid-Day.

“When I was a child, there were four people from my family who had chosen this path to attain peace. According to Simandhar Swami ji, one should renounce worldly pleasure at the age of 8. Now I’m 12-years-old. So that’s the reason why I want to take Diksha (initiation ceremony) at the earliest.”

Khushi’s father, Vinit Shah, who is a government employee is proud of his daughter for becoming a saint at such a young age.

“At this tender age, she has got the insight and it is not something very common among children. It is a matter of pride for us. She can spread light in the lives of millions once she becomes a saint.”

The girl is also brilliant in academics. She left school in November last year after scoring 97% marks in her class six examinations. “She has already traveled thousands of kilometers on feet and has seen the life after Diksha very closely,” Khushi’s father said.

Khushi’s mother shares her thoughts on her daughter’s decision. “Though I want her to become a doctor, we both agreed to her because we want all her wishes to be fulfilled. I am so proud of her decision,” she said.

Surely sainthood is a decision too big to be taken at the tender age of 12? But as long as she is happy, we wish her all the best!
