People Gather In Thousands To See Sridevi For One Last Time As She Goes On Her Final Journey

The year 2018 is just in its second month and we already have cause to grieve the loss of a shining star and amazing human being who left for her heavenly abode. Sridevi was found lifeless in the bathtub by her husband Boney Kapoor in Dubai, where she was attending Mohit Marwah’s wedding.

Her body was released by the Dubai police after all the proceedings and interrogations were completed and as soon as she reached here, a condolence meeting was arranged so people could bid her a final goodbye.

The entire industry seemed engulfed in gloom and mourning as they came to pay their final respects to her.

People thronged the streets carrying Sridevi’s posters, pictures, and flowers with disbelief and grief writ large on their faces, waiting for the congregation. All this, just so they can steal a glance of the legend who made us fall in love with cinema.

Friends and family gathered as she was given a funeral, wrapped in the tricolour.

She was given a send-off with state honours and a gun salute.

Family accompanied her all through the six-kilometre journey from the Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala to the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium and Hindu Cemetery.

Thousands of fans gathered to wish their Chandni a final goodbye.

There was overwhelming love.

We are still reeling from this immense shock. May her family find the strength to recover from their loss.

Sridevi’s final rites were completed by husband Boney Kapoor and their daughters, Janhvi and Khushi, who lit the pyre for the mukhagni.

I still can’t believe that the woman who taught us all to groove to ‘Hawa-Hawai’, feel proud of her progress in ‘English-Vinglish’, sympathise with Anju in ‘Chalbaaz’ and laugh at Manju’s crazy antics in the same, while we cheered her on, has left our midst. She may have left this world, but she will never leave our hearts.
