16-YO Uses A Remote-Control Car To Smuggle Drugs Across The Border, Gets Arrested

Have you ever realised how our minds work at lightning speed and come up with weird ideas when we are to prank someone? Probably that is why robbers tend to come up with unique ways to fulfil their purpose. Remember Delhi’s ‘Thak Thak Gang’ who stole Rs.4 Lacs using Rs. 10 notes as bait or the UP robber who stayed in Pune’s luxury hotels to break into local homes? Well, this time a techno-savvy ‘Gen-Z’ robber has blown our minds with his exceptional way of smuggling drugs across borders.

A 16-year-old teenager was arrested by California authorities earlier this week on suspicion of using a remote control car to smuggle $106,000 (Rs.76 Lakh approx.) worth of methamphetamine across the U.S.-Mexico border, reported News18. The authorities got hold of the boy when the border patrol agents spotted him hiding behind a thick bush near the border.

The boy was arrested near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in San Diego, authorities said to the San Diego Union-Tribune. They were able to confiscate two large duffel bags with 50 packages of methamphetamine weighing more than 55 pounds and a remote-controlled car from him.

“Border Patrol agents believe someone on the south side of the U.S.-Mexico border was able to slip the drug-laden car through a gap in the bollard-style fencing and then drive it to the teen waiting on the north side of the fence,” said Border Patrol spokesman Theron Francisco.

He further added that the agents believe that, “The boy was working with a partner on the south side of the border fence who repeatedly loaded bundles of meth onto the RC car, slipped it through the 4- to a 5-inch gap in the fence and then drove it to him.”

Authorities said that the remote-controlled car “would have had to make multiple runs and go back and forth a few times. There is no way he would have been able to do it in one trip,” Francisco added. The suspect was arrested on grounds of drug-smuggling and has been booked into Juvenile Hall, said reports.

Well, this incident does highlight how technology can be a boon and a curse for society when not used appropriately.
