Remember Dharmendra’s iconic scene in ‘Sholay’ when he climbed the water tank and threatened to jump off until Hema Malini agreed to marry him?
A man from Loni, Ghaziabad took inspiration from this scene and re-enacted the whole scene to the amusement of the people in Loni.
In a desperate attempt, a 21-year-old man named Harun climbed a 30-foot high unipole and threatened to commit suicide unless his fiancée got back with him.
A day after his engagement was called off, his relatives brought him to Loni in a car. Harun escaped from the car and ran up the unipole.
And obviously, police had to undertake a huge operation to rescue Harun. There was a massive traffic jam where hundreds of people gathered to watch the spectacle. Harun did not respond to any of the pleas by the policemen to come down.
“He is madly in love with the woman and was adamant that he would marry only her. In order to pressurise her into marriage, he climbed the pole installed on the road opposite Rashid Ali Gate, adjacent to Loni police station.”
In the end, policemen climbed the unipole and tried to get Harun down physically. Harun resisted this effort too.
The police became desperate and tied a rope around Harun’s body so that they could push him down without harming him. Another team was holding a tarpaulin so that Harun would fall on it harmlessly. And this attempt also failed!

You can see Harun struggling to stay attached to the unipole desperately. The police even tried kicking him off it, but he did not budge one inch.
In the end, he did get exhausted and let go to the onlookers’ delight.
The police have not filed a FIR on Harun. They are planning to book him under Section 151 CrPC (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences). Chances are that he will be let go with a warning. After all, he did all of it out of a broken heart.
