AR Rahman Says There’s A ‘Gang’ Spreading Rumours About Him, Shekhar Kapur Responds

Amidst the ongoing insider vs. outside debate, many actors without connections have alleged a lack of level playing field in Bollywood. Recently, music maestro AR Rahman also spoke up about not getting enough work due to a gang spreading false rumours. NDTV quoted him saying,

“See, I don’t say no to good movies, but I think there is a gang, which, due to misunderstandings, is spreading some false rumours. When Mukesh Chhabra came to me, I gave him four songs in two days. He said, ‘Sir, how many people said don’t go, don’t go (to him). They told me stories after stories.’ I heard that, and I said, ‘Yeah okay, now I understand why I am doing less (work) and why the good movies are not coming to me.’ I am doing dark movies because there is a whole gang working against me, without them knowing that they are doing harm.”

Subsequently, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur tweeted saying that all of this was happening due to the music composer’s Oscar win for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (Best Original Song and Best Original Music Score).

According to The Indian Express, AR Rahman responded by saying that we should continue to work as wasted time will never come back. Take a look.

Do you agree that talent is often sidelined in Bollywood?
