Sashi Tharoor just realized how costly ‘cattle class’ airline seats are in India.
Case in point being, Air India, that decided to hike its airfare to an approximate Rs. 35000 for a Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram flight and Shashi Tharoor tweeted about this when he tried to book a flight.
Economy fare of Rs 35,000 from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram. Stop this disgraceful exploitation by a public airline! pic.twitter.com/2qNPMrZwQz

Somebody put that to scale and it’s prepostrous
@ShashiTharoor its equivalent to a to and fro ticket to Vietnam

Soon people starting pouring out their own plights and suggestions
@ShashiTharoor @misanthroppu Delhi to Bangalore for just 76k -___- pic.twitter.com/2DEGoUL6IU

@NeethishCEO Thanks for the kind words #KeepLoving6E

@ShashiTharoor Please also raise your voice against @jetairways for charging Rs 80,000+ for Chennai tickets, making money out of tragedy.

@ShashiTharoor Mumbai to Nagpur yesterday was above 20000 one way

Finally, Jet Airways gave out a response tweet but that didn’t quite satisfy people

The former COO of Spice Jet, Sanjiv Kapoor had a final say in why were the airline prices inflated beyond limits
@ashishprabhu22 @ShashiTharoor Mr Tharoor, for a last minute seat in peak season on 1 of the busiest wkends for the longest dom flight (1/n)
— Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) December 14, 2015
@ashishprabhu22 @ShashiTharoor In an industry where 75% of costs are in $ and the $ is Rs 67, and fuel is 50% higher than elsewhere (2/n)
— Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) December 14, 2015
@ashishprabhu22 @ShashiTharoor And where taxes and airport charges amongst highest in world, a $500 one-way fare is pretty good (3/n)
— Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) December 14, 2015
@ashishprabhu22 @ShashiTharoor Check similar fares for a 3 hr flight in similar conditions anywhere else in the world and see, thanks (4/4)
— Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) December 14, 2015
@ashishprabhu22 @ShashiTharoor If fares were capped, there’d be no seats at all available for those who book at last minute in peak season.
— Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) December 14, 2015
@ashishprabhu22 @ShashiTharoor As they would all sell out much in advance, like train tkts. Book 2 mos ahead or no chance in 2AC or chaircar
— Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) December 14, 2015
@ashishprabhu22 @ShashiTharoor Keep in mind too this is the unrestricted economy class fare, the lower fares must have sold out long ago.
— Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) December 14, 2015
Sanjiv makes a valid point, but are you convinced?
