When we’re trying to watch our weight, we focus on eating clean and including physical activities in our daily routine. We avoid having junk food and replace white rice, processed sugar and packaged snacks with healthier options. But according to Eleni Chechopoulos, a gut and hormone nutritionist from California, we also have to stay away from shampoos!
Mirror UK reports that the influencer whose bio reads, “I help women heal their gut & hormones, identify food sensitivities, & beat the bloat” posted on her Instagram handle @keepyourkefi (now made private) that chemicals in shampoo cause weight gain by saying,
“Even though you eat healthy and exercise every day, you still might battle the scale because of your SHAMPOO. Enter obesogens. Chemicals that disrupt HOW your body creates and stores fat – found in shampoo, toothpaste, grocery store receipts, shower curtains, makeup, perfume, and so. much. more.”
This is next level fatphobic. Encouraging women to think and worry about the number of calories in SHAMPOO and it’s effect on weight gain. Jesus wept. pic.twitter.com/VfZLoxEXDW

According to Mail Online, she ended the post by asking everyone to steer clear of products with MSG, fragrances, and antibacterials. Insider quoted qualified nutrition therapist Ian Marber saying,
“There is a teeny grain of truth in that some chemicals may have a minor, tiny influence on hormones, but stretching it to suggest anything like she is suggesting is madness. I worry that they [micro-influencers] inject anxiety and mistrust into a part of the population who maybe cannot tell the difference between legitimate health advice and posts that seem legitimate but are no more than someone else’s misunderstanding of science.”
People are not buying her claim and are slamming her for exaggerating about “obesogens” which can promote fat accumulation indirectly because there’s not enough evidence to back it up.
This is so dangerous to promote! When my eating disorder was at its worst this would have badly triggered me and would of just given me another thing to obsess over. 😡

People like her, lining their pockets with the tears and fears of self-conscious people through nonsensical claims and scare tactics is abhorrent and unethical beyond comprehension.

So a study was done on two mice and one of them gained weight when exposed to shampoo….#scientific 👌🏻🙄

Oh, great. So I should stop washing my hair and brushing my teeth, so I'll get skinny with stringy, greasy hair and fuzzy teeth. Yeah, that's a good trade-off.

While it is a good practice to switch to organic products without chemicals, people are of the opinion that Eleni’s claims might have more to do with getting everyone enrolled in her “Gut Rehab Blueprint” service.
