A Person Got Labeled As ‘Harami’ And ‘Pakistani’ After Reading An Urdu Book In Delhi Metro

With increasing intolerance in India, you never know what aspect of your personality or daily routine can be used against you. An activity as common as reading a book in native language made a few people spew out poison in a Delhi Metro.

Sowmya Rao recently tweeted a screenshot of a Facebook status which was uploaded by her friend. The status read that he/she was reading an Urdu booklet on a metro, and people labeled him/her as a ‘harami’ and ‘Pakistani’ because of that. Here’s what the tweet said.

The translation of what the reader overheard is “Send these bastards to Pakistan, see what mess they have created in Kashmir. All of them are Pakistanis.”

Some tweets that followed were quite disturbing.

Why do people forget that Urdu is one of the eighteen national languages of the Union of India. It’s not a foreign language. And even if it were a foreign language, how does anyone reading that will make them wrong or anti-national?

Let’s hope that people’s view broadens with time and such incidents are not repeated.
