Rajasthan Police Host Village Girl’s Wedding At Station Because She Couldn’t Afford It

Police officers in India somehow give off a perception of being unapproachable and even borderline villainous. Maybe it’s all thanks to the Bollywood movies we watch, where the hawaldaar is always hand in glove with the goons or is corrupt and out to extort money from you.

However, this story is going to change your idea about police officers and it’s for all the right reasons.

Mamta Mahawar, a young girl in debt and MGNREGA worker was married on Akshaya Tritiya in a beautiful ceremony fully sponsored and hosted by Datwas Police Station in Rajasthan’s Tonk district.

According to DNA, along with the wedding ceremony the policemen went all out and left no stone unturned and also hosted a reception for the newlyweds. All the events of the wedding took place on the station premises itself.

The entire station was decked up with lights and flowers in the full-on shaadi style to welcome the baraat. Mamta’s father passed away when she was still a toddler and her brother too died after a prolonged illness. Officials said,

“Mamta’s mother took a loan for her son’s treatment. But after he died, Mamta started working as a labourer but was unable to pay off the entire debt.”

She then got work under MNREGA in the police station premises but somehow she didn’t get her wages and complained to the cops about it. The station house officer spoke to the Sarpanch about the matter and her wages were released.

During this time, the police officers learned about the problems faced by this mother and daughter and got to know that Mamta had been engaged. She wanted her daughter to be wed in a grand function.

The staff at the station then decided that they would help out with the wedding. District Police Superintendent of Police Yogesh Dadhich, Additional District Superintendent of Police Avniish Sharma, local MLA Hiralal Reghar and many others were also there to shower the couple with blessings.

Kudos to this police station, you’ve gone beyond the call of duty. We also wish the newlyweds a life full of love and happiness. You’ve sure had a big day you’ll never forget!
