Karim Morani, Producer Of SRK’s ‘Ra-One’ Surrenders For Repeatedly Raping 25-Year-Old

Instances of casting couch in Bollywood which strugglers face could be a topic kept under wraps but is certainly not a hidden topic in Bollywood. Producers and Directors have been known to take advantage of ambitious young strugglers who enter the tinsel town, with big dreams in their eyes only to fall a prey to these opportunists who never fail to take advantage of their vulnerability.

In a similar incident, film producer Karim Morani surrendered himself to Rachakonda police of Hyderabad in Telangana, after he was alleged of the rape of a struggling actress earlier this year.

Morani who has been associated with films like ‘Ra-One’, ‘Damini’, ‘Raja Hindustani’, etc was accused of raping a Delhi-based woman on multiple occasions in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The victim came forward with her allegations in January this year. The producer is also the founder of Cineyug Productions.

As reported by India Today, the 25-year-old woman wanted to act in films and has alleged that Morani made false promises of marriage to her. He first raped her in July 2015 which left the victim traumatised and depressed. She talked to her family about the incident but found no support from them.

Recalling her ordeal about Morani repeatedly assaulting her sexually, she said,

“I didn’t know what was happening nor did I know how to react. I was depressed and didn’t talk to anyone about it. When I spoke to his family, they did not even react. But now after going through so much, I felt the need to fight. And I am doing this on my own

He repeatedly drugged and raped me. He threatened to shoot me and blackmailed me with nude pictures of mine which he had clicked”

After his surrender, the Supreme Court has rejected his plea for an anticipatory bail. Morani was booked on charges of section 417 (cheating), 376 (rape) 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), among other sections of the IPC.

The tinsel town is often unkind to people who want it to embrace them as its own. The people who approach Bollywood to make something of their acting career are vulnerable and often do not find the courage to expose people who have wronged them. We hope the courage of the girl is rewarded by giving the producer an appropriate punishment.
