Several Porn Websites Blocked Across India. What’s Going On? No One Has A Clue.

Is the government secretly trying to ban porn in India?

Maybe yes!

Hell broke loose yesterday when a few Reddit users noticed that porn sites were blocked on certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across India.

Users of MTNL, BSNL and ACT broadband have claimed that sites are inaccessible.

 

Incidentally, the ban is not uniform. We could confirm that sites are opening on Airtel broadband in Pune, while they are either throttled or inaccessible on Vodafone, DoCoMo and other mobile networks

In layman’s term, Error 500 status is a ‘catch-all’ error which basically means that the server (porn site server) couldn’t be specific about the error and hence is responding with this generic error.

 

It’s worth mentioning that Supreme Court has earlier stated that adults watching porn in the confines of their home is not a crime.

Chief Justice HL Dattu had said, “Such interim orders cannot be passed by this court. Somebody may come to the court and say look I am above 18 and how can you stop me from watching it within the four walls of my room. It is a violation of Article 21 [right to personal liberty].”
