The perfect crime does not exist. No matter how well planned the crime is, the truth is bound to come out. Even the smartest criminal leaves behind some smidge of a record that he was there. We’ve all seen this scenario play out a million times in our movies. The one where the police are seemingly stumped at first, but the tiniest of detail, heroically leads them to the offender.
In true filmy style, police officers from Marathahalli, Bangalore managed to pull off a similar feat.
According to Times Of India, Marathahalli police were stumped following the discovery of the charred remains of a man near Kempapura Main Road.
Since the body was burnt beyond recognition, the police neither knew the identity of the victim, nor of the murderer.
The police were left with only two clues. A pair of partially burnt slippers and an empty bottle that had contained petrol. An investigating officer said:
The police noted down the registration number of the car. This led them to a rental company’s office in Indiranagar. The staff gave them the address details provided by the suspects at the time of rental.
Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner of police, Whitefield says:
“It was a men’s PG run by two men, N Mahesh Reddy and S Rami Reddy. During interrogation, the two confessed to killing Murali, their cook.”
As per the police, Murali was a 30-year-old who hailed from Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh. He would often quarrel with the two suspects about things like salary, leave and his working hours.
On April 6, Mahesh and Rami Reddy along with an employee of a private company who stays in the same PG, N Vineeth, smothered Murali to death.
The police added:
“Later that night, they dumped the body in the car they hired and drove to Kempapura. On the way, they bought the petrol at the JB Nagar bunk.”
The accused trio have been remanded in judicial custody.
Kudos to the Marathahalli police for their smart investigative tactic. The whole incident could be made into a Bollywood movie any day. I wonder who’d play the smart heroic cop.
