A woman from Patna recently got married to an Indian guy who is settled in the US. At the beginning of March, she reached the United States and began her married life in Washington DC. He was working for a company named Freddie Mac.
And now, just a few months later, the woman has filed a complaint to senior officials in the Indian government, the Indian embassy in India and the consulate in San Francisco accusing her husband of domestic violence and torture.
According to a report by NDTV, the woman alleged that her husband has “abandoned” her without any financial support and that her father-in-law is demanding dowry to get her back into her husband’s life.
She further accused her husband of domestic violence and claimed that it got so bad that she had to be rescued by the police from the “cruelty”. In her complaint, the woman claimed that her husband used to “check” her vagina to see if there was any “pregnancy prevention” being used.
“Many times, he has checked my vagina to see whether I used anything to prevent pregnancy. Few times he checked the same by using his phone flashlight and a few times by using his finger and sometimes by wearing gloves. After sex he used to shout at me that you are using something to prevent pregnancy,” she said.
She further alleged, “When I used to go to the washroom, he used to make allegations that you are doing something to prevent pregnancy in the washroom as there was no noise while using the washroom. Then he told me to keep the door open and use the washroom.”
Alleging mental harassment and threats, the woman went on to add:
“One day, he made me sit on my knees on the road to say sorry to him. He always used to harass me by saying that once I leave him or told anyone about torture, he will make my life miserable.”
Commenting on this issue, Puneet Ahluwalia, executive director of the South Asia Minorities Alliance, said, “These girls and their families are then at the mercy of their husbands while living in the USA.”
On the other hand, the husband denied all allegations and claimed that he was being framed and has filed for divorce. However, the woman has been contacting several organisations, running from one office to another to seek justice. She is currently living with a relative in Seattle.
The local Fairfax County Police has registered a complaint against her husband.
