A Passenger Had To Drive A Cab After Driver Took ‘Pills’ And Fell Asleep Behind The Wheels

Thank God for radio cab services. While this might be true, not many have the ‘thank God’ experience and a recent incident has landed radio cab service Uber into more trouble than it already is in.

In a recent incident from Delhi, a passenger, Ishaan Gill was forced to get behind the wheel and drive his Uber cab driver home, because the driver fell asleep while driving.

He also said, “The cab reached an hour late and the driver Ajay seemed dizzy. I asked him if he was OK and he nodded in positive. At Aurobindo Marg, I stopped texting and looked ahead on the road. To my amazement, the driver was about to hit a divider. As I looked towards him, he had completely dozed off. I showed my driving license to the driver and offered to drive. He agreed and I drove all the way to Gurgaon while the driver was completely gone on the passenger seat.”

Ishaan even posted a video of him paying money to the driver, while the driver was fast asleep in the passenger seat.

He posted the video and wrote:

Had a horrific experience with UBER last night. My driver fell asleep on the wheel because he took “pills” to keep him up longer. He had to be shaken up by me to prevent a crash from happening. I personally had to put him in the passenger seat and drive his car back by myself. Pathetic background checks obviously. Very disturbing.

Uber was quick to respond to Ishaan’s video

Gill also said that after he complained to Uber, the team offered to reimburse him the bill of 500 but he declined and said, “I just wanted them to ensure background check of drivers. What if he hit the car?”

And while it is not known what drug the driver might have taken, some people argued and took his side

While the driver may or may not be in a life crisis that forced him to take meds to keep himself awake, taking them on a job that requires to drive and stay alert was not the most intelligent thing to do.

We hope Uber and their drivers don’t repeat this in the future. They will be risking their and the passengers’ lives.
