7 Signs You Have Been Over-Thinking Way Too Much

“We are dying from overthinking. We are slowly killing ourselves by thinking about everything. Think. Think. Think. You can never trust the human mind anyway. It’s a death trap.”

This is what my roommate’s room poster reads. Every evening when I return from work, I see this message. It has casually become a part of my routine now. And every time I see this, it reminds me of my hostel days where I met a girl who was a victim of over-thinking. She used to drown in those sad waters every night, cripple at the thought of striking a conversation with a new person just because her head had warned her not to. I helped her coming out of that zone (yeah, I know I’m a very nice person! 🙂 )

And with this article, I’ll target the most common problem some of us face in today’s competitive world: over-thinking. People suffering from this, usually tend to be wrapped in their cocoon, and scared of coming in terms with the real world.

These are the signs if a person over-thinks a lot:

1. A bad feeling becomes a bad day

You experience negative emotions and you think that you’re wrong as a human being, but in reality it’s all a part of being human. We make mistakes, but you don’t need to brood over it. Take some time, ponder, and then, let it go. Remember, it’s completely normal to make mistakes and that obviously, doesn’t make you a bad person.

2. You actually spend more time thinking about your life than actually living it

It’s all there in your mind. You think over it and make mental notes to restrict yourself from that thing that is bothering you. In your head, you regret that your life would have been so much better if you had not met this person, or if you were not made to encounter such environment.

Live in THE moment. The world is your oyster. You still have time to change things because it’s never too late.

3. You maladaptively daydream

Maladaptive daydreaming is when you imagine extensive possibilities of an alternative life. Rather than actually going out and coping with the issues in your real life, this activity gives you a ‘high’ and consequently, helps you eliminate the uncomfortable feeling, which is not beneficial for a long run.

4. Ending up making every life situation 100X more difficult than it actually is

Calm down. Everything should not culminate into crafting conspiracy theories.

5. Evaluating your life as if someone else is keeping a score

Nobody is. And even if someone is, you do not need to prove that person wrong, you need to prove yourself right. In this busy world, people have no time to give two fucks about you. Therefore, stop contemplating your life from others’ viewpoint. Instead, keep telling yourself: I am the shizz. 😉

6. Convincing yourself that the worst case scenario will come true…someday

Again, it’s all in your head. You have already thought of a series of incidents that haven’t actually happened in the real world, but according to you, someday, they will. And you couldn’t help feeling more worried because of this. Just, let it go. The best is yet to come. And the curious paradox is if you accept the situation as it is, then only you can change!

7. Lastly, your happiness resides in a mental container

You see the beautiful sunrise and feel happy and then you suddenly think: Oh! My life isn’t fair. Sometimes, you begin to feel a sense of awe when you see something beautiful and simple, and then you stop yourself as your dissatisfaction fuels you.

Do not let a bout of over-thinking grapple you.

So, this is what I’ve seen people doing when they over-think. Don’t make uncertainty your only certainty.

Suffering from these signs? Feel free to talk to your close friends, parents and if you feel none of them can help you, you can always let me know! 🙂
