Government Announces One Rank One Pension Scheme For Ex-Servicemen. Historic Day For India!

What a historic day for India!

A soldier’s contribution to his motherland is incomparable to any other sacrifice. The implementation of the ‘One Rank One Pension’ is probably the least thing we could have done to repay them.

The scheme has been a long-standing demand of over 2 million ex-servicemen in the country. It seeks to ensure that a uniform pension is paid to the defence personnel who retire at the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their dates of retirement.

In a bid to end the logjam on the issue of the ‘One Rank One Pension’ article, the government has broadly accepted the burning issue which was pending for 4 decades. The package will kick in from July 2014 and use 2013 as the base year for calculations.

This is what Major-General Satbir Singh (retd), who is leading the campaign said:

“The government has accepted our concept of OROP. The issue of VRS has also been solved after our delegation, which met Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar this afternoon, told him that there is no concept of VRS in military. We have something called pre-mature retirement and the government has also accepted it.”

Shortly, Manohar Parikkar announced in a press conference:

“Despite huge financial burden, we are implementing OROP. It will be effective from July 1, 2014. Personnel who opt for voluntary retirement will not be covered under OROP. Gap between the current pensioners will be bridged in 5 years.”

Nothing happens overnight.  As Indians, we need to have patience and keep persevering.

It’s indeed a big step. Jai Hind!
