Odisha Fishermen Hit The Jackpot, Catch Rare Fish & Sell Them For A Whopping ₹1.8 Lakhs!

Why do we dedicate more than 15 years of our lives to quality education? Why do we take all these additional courses, sit for career counselling, look for a job, and succumb to the conventional idea of a decent future? To put it in straight words – it’s all for the cash. There are very few who do what they do out of passion because in reality, paisa bolta hai! However, after reading this story, you will be saying “what am I doing with my life?”, just like me.

A total of 8 Ghol fish, considered to be one of the most exotic and expensive varieties of marine fish were caught by fishermen from Odisha from off the coast of Dr. Abdul Kalam Island yesterday. According to sources, the fishermen sold the entire lot for a whopping 1.8 lakhs!

The fish, which are locally known as ‘Telia’ was caught by a fisherman called Ashok Giri along with his associates when they ventured out to the Bay of Bengal on his boat as they routinely do every day.

Reports revealed that the heaviest fish amongst the lot weighed 27kgs, followed by those that weighed 16kg, 12kg, 8kg and so on. What’s astonishing is that traders paid Rs. 6,000 for each kilo, leading up to the hefty 1.8 Lakhs INR for the entire lot! Who knew fish was worth so much!

The heart of the Ghol fish possesses medicinal properties, which is why it is popularly called ‘Sea Gold’. These are usually found in the Indo-Pacific region and is allegedly hard to catch. It’s only when they are seen on the surface during the breeding season is when anybody has a chance to catch them.
