Dark skin = South Indian

Indians have a bad habit of discriminating based on looks and we do it unconsciously. Our minds have been trained to think like that.

So much so, that people are now readily accepting any form of bias towards them. This girl does the same, and assumes that like everybody else, the guy opposite her in the cafe is judging her for being from the Northeast. Well, he’s not and that’s the pleasant surprise in the plot.
