The Hangzhou Asian Games Men’s Javelin Throw finals was as dramatic as it could get.
It was basically India versus India where a neck-to-neck competition took place between two incredible sportsmen from the same soil – Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena. In the end, Neeraj Chopra defended his position and once again, won gold while Kishore Jena won silver.
Kishore Jena breaks his own personal best twice in a row and also qualifies directly for Paris 2024 Olympics.

Here’s what happened. Neeraj Chopra’s first throw itself was bombastic. It was easily an 85-86m throw, according to spectators, but controversy spurred when the Chinese organizers did not count his throw for an alleged “technical glitch”. Social media erupted with posts slamming the Chinese organizers with accusations of cheating. But Neeraj didn’t lose heart.
#NeerajChopra threw a monster throw in his first attempt but the Chinese technology failed and they couldn't measure it.
once this Asian Games gets over, this cheating by Chinese officials throughout the tournament against Indian athletes should be thoroughly investigated. pic.twitter.com/NhTvGt4zwY

He attempted his first throw again, but it wasn’t a satisfactory one and only clocked a distance of 82.38m. Meanwhile, Kishore Jena’s first throw was 81.26m and he was just behind Neeraj, waiting to get to the top spot.
Neeraj’s second was 84.49m and Kishore’s was 79.76. However, after Kishore’s second throw, the organizers waved a red flag calling it a foul. But it was Neeraj who argued against it and changed their decision.
Neeraj’s third was a foul, followed by his fourth throw which was EXCEPTIONAL – 88.88m! The way he roared after his fourth throw made it evident that this was going to be his winning throw.
This was followed by his fifth at 80.80m and his sixth was a foul.
Kishore Jena, on the other hand, clocked 86.77m in his third throw and 87.54 in his fourth. Both his fifth and sixth throws were fouls. Hence, his best throw was his fourth one – 87.54 – which helped him bag the silver medal.
