There is no scarcity of people in this world, or rather the internet, ready to jump to conclusions and offer their opinions on things they weren’t asked about. There is also another set of people waiting for someone else to slip, just so they can step in and teach them a lesson on sensitive topics.
A girl expressing her disappointment with Muslin cloth in a tweet got schooled by a stranger on religious tolerance who read it as MUSLIMS. What followed next was a pun-demic, IYKWIM.
She tweeted saying,
Fuck Muslins, really. Total piece of shit. I mean zero elasticity and tears so badly also wrinkles like shit.
— Nidhi (@nidzk123) January 29, 2018
And this guy who thought it’s his responsibility to school her.
Seems like he deleted his tweet after someone pointed out his mistake. But there is no lack of people taking screenshots of the really funny things too. Thank god, for that!
After this particular reply, the thread was instantly flooded with Twitterati making hilarious puns about it. And I, for one, can’t get enough of it. See for yourself.
1. And so it began.
Sews me right.

2. Let’s talk about all the types now.

3. The rhyme, the puns, the humour. All on point.
You've Spun a good tale, but it will be difficult for you to get Bale. Janta ab aapki Rug Rug se wakif hai.

4. Which is anyway very flimsy.
This tweet is an attack on secular fabric.

5. Don’t need(le) to point the obvious.

7. Potato-Potaato?

— Nidhi (@nidzk123) January 30, 2018
Finally, after all of these, the guy who clearly started this mess replied and explained why he said what he said.
okk i know i just totally fucked it up. I was drunk as fuck and I misread muslins as muslims…. So meanwhile i need to distance myself from social media for a week…

Although the tweet does seem misleading at first glance, it also goes on to show that the issue/debate is so ingrained in our minds that it’s the first thought we all have when we read it. Maybe if all stop trying to school each other and start schooling ourselves, we will all be better off than this.
He made a good decision to stay away for a while because the trolls are lurking around for him. But thanks to him for giving us a fun-tastic thread to laugh about.
