Mumbai — in this city of dreams and also a city of crimes, where various incidents are reported each day. Some petty, some gory and some totally unexpected. But how often does one lose total faith in our judicial system or the law enforcement agencies? That answer is very subjective.
Recently, a Mumbaikar, Prannoy Nair put up a Facebook post detailing the assault he faced a couple of days ago. And, according to him his assaulter was a Police Officer.
My faith in the system as on 1st June 2017, died. This man is what the next two minutes of your read is going to be about. I was driving from Andheri to Kharghar at 2:30 AM and wasn’t sure of the way exactly. On the Santacruz-Chembur link road, I slow down a little to read the board for directions.
This man on the motorcycle behind but on the next lane, keeps honking. He levels with me and says something, I’ve got my windows up so I can’t hear him.. I show him the empty lane that he’s already in, indicating him that his lane is free. Apparently, defying all sorts of science, through closed windows he heard “Abey jaa bey”. He gets agitated, follows me for a while and indicates me to pull over and goes infront of me.
At this point I read “Police” written on his number plate. I pull over and get out my car and ask him what happened. He’s not happy about me slowing down. I tell him he wasn’t even in my lane, he doesn’t have anything to do with what I did.
We argue about this for a few mins and then I ask him his name. He points to his groin and tells me his name is “Lun* Fak*r”.. I don’t respond. Then I read “Police” on his bike and ask him, “Acha toh aap Police wale hai?”.. To which he responds,” Police wala hu toh kya karega”. I took out my phone and click a picture of this guy. It pisses him off and tries to grab it off me. He gets agitated, he threatens me to leave.
I silently turn to walk towards my car and that’s when he hits me with his hand on my back. I turn around in anger, he threatens me again. Angrily I walk towards my car again and that’s when this man, removes a cane of some sort from his bike and starts thrashing me. There’s noone on the street for help and neither can I do anything because I didn’t want to “assault a police officer”.
What does a man do in such a situation? Three guys run and come to check what’s happening, and immediately this man walks to his bike and takes off. Is this how our Police serves and protects? I’ve filed an FIR against this man but honestly I’ve lost all hope in the system. I didn’t want to post this and but I just couldn’t deal with the fact that a man like this is out there, taking advantage of his power, exhibiting vile and aggressive behavior. How can I just let this man get away with this?
He also put up pictures of the incident and that’s not a good sight.

As mentioned in the post, he has lodged an FIR, but he still doesn’t believe in the system. What is a man supposed to do in this situation?
