More Trouble For Nestle: Larvae Found In Infant Formula Sample In Tamil Nadu

Nestle’s troubles seem to be endless. Right after the Maggi row, Nestle is caught in yet another controversy! This time, it is the ‘Nestle NAN PRO 3’ milk powder which was found to be infected by larvae.

After the raging controversy over Maggi, a sample of milk powder was declared unsafe by Tamil Nadu Food Safety Wing as it was infected with larvae.

Prem Ananth, a taxi driver from Puliakulam, Coimbatore, had purchased this milk powder for his children. After feeding his first child, he was just about to feed the another one from the same milk powder when he found out that it was infected with larvae. This led to a skin allergy for the first infant who was rushed to the hospital and was admitted to a private paediatric care centre.

Mr Ananth registered a voice complaint with the Nestle Customer support after which local area manager, G Krishnaperumal was sent to investigate the matter. After that, the area manager convinced him that he would replace the product but Mr Ananth refused as he wanted to take this matter to Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (Food Safety Wing).

He took this sample for testing, after which it was confirmed that the sample contained 28 live larvae and 22 rice weevils.

Meanwhile, R Kathiravan, the designated food safety officer, confirmed the report about larvae in the milk powder but said the results cannot be used to classify all Nestle products as unsafe!

Well, now the time can only tell how deep in trouble Nestle is!
