Mexican Couple Got Remarried In Indian Style On Their 50th Anniversary With Band Baja Barat

There is something about Indian weddings that is inherently beautiful.

The band, baaja, baraat; the beautiful traditional clothes and the sumptuous feast that follows.

Maybe that’s why a Mexican couple came to India to celebrate their Gold Anniversary!

Oscar Vargas Varela, 81, and his wife Maria Guadalupe Hernandez de Vargas, 76 were so impressed and fascinated with Indian culture during their visit here that they decided to celebrate their anniversary by getting married in the Indian style!

They were in Ahmedabad as volunteers for AFS. It was a spur of the moment decision to get ‘remarried’ in the Indian way.

They had visited India previously too and were inspired by the richness of the culture.

“While we heard and read about little aspects of the culture here, we thought why not get a first-hand experience by getting married. Little elements of each traditions have such beautiful and deeper meanings.”

And 50 years on, the couple is still very much in love as the ‘newly wedded wife’ Maria says.

“I am just as impressed as I was the first time when I met him.”

True love celebrated in the Indian way!
