8 lakh people commit suicide every year. Out of which 17% are the residents of India. That makes it 1,35,000 people every year.

Suicide rate in our country is increasing every day and it’s important that we talk about it. It’s important we talk about depression, anxiety, pain, loss and suffering that leads one to take the horrid decision to end his/her life.

In another heart wrenching incident, a Marathi filmmaker Atul B. Tapkir was found dead in a hotel in Pune, Maharashtra. Tapkir wrote a Facebook post, yesterday night around 12, that clearly mentioned that he has decided to commit suicide.

In a long post written in Marathi, he said that he was going through very tough times, professionally and personally. After he produced the film ‘Dhol Taashe’, he went into losses, his father and sister backed him he alleged that his wife started abusing and harassing him.

He said that his wife threw him out of the house, abused and defamed him in the neighbourhood. She separated him from his children. She also sent her brothers to beat him up.

He continues that one day when he called his wife and abused her, she abused him back. She filed a police complaint against him. In the view of that incident, Tapkir has urged Maharashtra CM Davendra Fadnavis to make sure that –

“the police must listen to a man’s side of the story too when a woman lodges a complaint.”

In the post, he wrote his last wish was that his children should be raised by his father, not by his wife. Tapkir also said in the post that he had proof of the harassment he suffered, in a pen drive.
