101-Year-Old Mann Kaur Is Gearing Up For Senior Olympics And Her Training Is Inspirational

Remember the inspirational great grandmom, Mann Kaur, who won 3 gold medals in the Americas Masters Games last year when she was 100 years old?

You would expect any reasonable human being to retire from athletics at the age of 100. But not Mann Kaur. At 101, she’s still raring to go and is training hard for her sprint events at the World Master Games.

Mann Kaur will participate in the 100-plus category of the games in 100m, 200m, Shot put and Javelin events. The event is considered as Senior Olympics and over 18,000 athletes will be participating from 100 countries.

And it is not like she’s a veteran of athletics. She was introduced to it only when she was 93! Two years of training and she started winning the sprint events easily, beating everyone in her age group.

Mann Kaur has been religiously training in Patiala for 5 months now. Her 79-year-old son Gurudev Singh trains her and acts as her coach. And from the looks of it, she is still improving her timing each day even at this age!

“In Patiala, we also got access to the gym. It helped my mother reduce 10 seconds in 100m. If all goes well, we will further reduce the timing by four-five seconds.”

Mann Kaur was a bit hesitant when she took up the sport but then she was encouraged by her fellow athletes, she started enjoying running.

And we could learn a lot from her. She never touches fried food and her secret of longevity is a glass of kefir every morning after waking up.

In an age where people are suffering from old age diseases in their youth, and hectic lifestyle is blamed for the lack of fitness, Mann Kaur is an inspiration on how to be mentally and physically fit.
