Remember Forrest Gump, the protagonist of the 1994 movie played by Tom Hanks, who ran thousands of miles across the United States? A recent incident from Italy has people likening a real-life disgruntled husband to the film’s hero.
As per a report in Times Now, a 48-year old Italian man stepped outside his home and violated the lockdown in order to calm himself down after a fight with his wife. But he ended up walking 450 kilometers down south from his home and was eventually caught by the police.
The man who lives in Como, which is in the far north of Italy on the Swiss border, managed to walk all the way down south to a small town named Fano on the Adriatic coast, averaging 60 km daily.
BBC News reports that the Italian police halted his epic journey at 2 AM in Fano, a week after he left his home in the north. He was reportedly found walking aimlessly in the cold.
The man was fined €400 (Rs 35,700) for breaching lockdown rules, as Italy has imposed a nationwide curfew from 10 PM-5 AM in an effort to curb the second wave of coronavirus infections in the country.
He explained to the police, “I came here on foot, I didn’t use any transport. Along the way, I met people who offered me food and drink”. He added, “I’m OK, just a bit tired.” He also admitted that he didn’t realize how far he had come during his long stroll to cool-off his mind.
However, the police couldn’t believe that he had walked so far. It is when they checked his ID that they realized that his wife had reported him missing a week ago. Ultimately, she traveled to Fano to pick him up.
