Daughter Of Ex-IAS Officer Vandalises Diya Stall During Diwali, Shares Her Side Of The Story

Anything posted on the microblogging site Twitter never gets ignored. And if it’s about unjust, people online make sure that the authorities take action in the matter.

Recently, people online were furious after a woman was seen vandalizing a roadside stall of a person selling earthen lamps (diyas) and decorative items in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar.

In a video that has been extensively shared online, a woman was seen breaking the items at the stall during Diwali with her mop.

According to Financial Express, the woman in the video, identified as Dr. Anju Maurya, was allegedly angry at the vendors for setting up a makeshift diya shop on the roadside right across from her house.

Hence, she told them to relocate their shop to another place. When they failed to do so in the given time period, the furious woman brought a mop from her house and started breaking the earthen products at the shop.

Watch:

In the viral clip, the shop owner is seen explaining, “Madam barged into the shop with a water pipe and asked me to go from here. She then poured water on me and on the other items and then kicked the diyas. I pleaded to her to give us some time to move the stall items into another vehicle, but she didn’t listen. She came out with a stick and a mop and attacked the shop.”

As soon as the clip made it online, people went Sherlock and unearthed that the woman is the daughter of a retired IAS officer Shankar Lal.

Twitter came together to aggressively demand the woman’s arrest for causing damage to the shopkeeper and insulting him.

After multiple complaints, a non-cognizable offense report (NCR) under section 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) was registered against the accused Dr. Anju Maurya at Gomtinagar PS in Lucknow. However, no arrests have been made.

Talking to local media, Dr. Anju shared that for the past 7-8 years, these roadside vendors encroach on the area in front of her house and install their makeshift shops during Diwali. This makes it difficult for them to go to work. When she returns home from the hospital, she’s unable to drive her vehicle home. She has also brought her office to the notice of the local police.

When asked why she got angry and attacked the shops, she responded that in the morning when she was standing on her balcony with a cup of tea, the youngsters whistled at her and did some offensive actions. This is when she lost her calm.

Our streets are full of annoying people who stare the hell out of a woman and make her uncomfortable with their body language and offensive commentary. Having said that, taking her anger out on their livelihood wasn’t a boss move. What do you think of this incident?
