When you’re just dipping your feet in the relationship waters, it’s hard to draw boundaries straight away. The first six months are honeymoon months, you can’t keep your hands off each other, you don’t feel like keeping the phone until you’ve talked all night and you feel like seeing the other person more often than you see your own face in the mirror.
It’s an adorable time until it starts being a little too adorable for a working individual like yourself. It’s difficult having the what’s okay or not okay conversation but you know your relationship needs it when,
1. Your boss catches you making a pout face while replying to your boyfriend/girlfriend on Snapchat
2. When she sends you a nude and you can’t hide your naked lady face in front of the conference room full of employees.
3. When they call on the office phone and start cute talking while all your colleagues are watching intently.
4. When they send you a gift/food to your cubicle and it has the cheesiest message on it, that all your office peeps read aloud.
5. When they call you at lunch and ask you to describe in detail all the ingredients that were in the food you ate today.
6. When you have your first fight and they want to clear it out immediately and you end up spending an hour or two just glued to the phone saying ‘hmm’, while simultaneously typing emails.
7. When they pop by for lunch so often that the receptionist and the lift man are on first name basis with them.
8. When they make your colleague their best friend and discusses all your problems with him/her and asks them to make you understand.
9. When you walk into the office to find a framed picture of them on your desk, which you definitely haven’t put there.
10. When you take a sick leave to spend the day with them and they check in on Facebook with you.
11. When they suggest that the office starts a bring your girlfriend/boyfriend to work day.
12. When the boss comes over and he/she is chatting with you on Facebook and you can’t switch tabs fast enough.
13. When they save a cute picture of the two of you as your desktop wallpaper.
If this seems all too familiar, maybe it’s time to have a serious conversation about boundaries.Â
