It is very important for children to grow up in an environment that facilitates their healthy being. The mental, social, and physical health of a child comes to a standstill if the environment is not right. Because, in the end, bad moments that take place in the childhood leave the deepest scars. The story of this 10-year-old and his 4-year-old brother is a living example of the above-mentioned.
A 10-year-old boy from Badrapur in South Delhi, saw his mother being slashed to death by his own father, while his 4-year-old brother was asleep in the next room.
The kid is now unable to forget details of the disturbing incident and is in major distress.
The elder sibling explained his pain in just one heartbreaking line to Hindustan Times.
“I could do nothing from inside,”
Both the children have been left traumatised. The 10-year-old is hurt the most as he could not save his mother who was begging for his help.
“My father cut my mother’s throat using a knife. She fell on the floor and wriggled while holding her neck. She could not speak anything after that.”
The children were exposed to an abusive relationship since a very long time, as Parveen (the father) would come home drunk every day and beat up Meenakshi (the mother). An officer reported the abuse and spoke about the children’s custody.
“The boys’ mother anyways wanted to leave them in her parents’ custody. She did not want them to witness her husband regularly beat her after coming home drunk.”
The children are currently being counselled and it will take some time for both of them to come out from the trauma, as the intensity of the incident has had a huge impact on them.
The couple, Parveen and Meenakshi, were married for 12 years. However, they had a disturbed married life. In fact, reports also suggest that Parveen was suspicious of Meenakshi having an extra marital affair.
The two would often end up quarrelling, resulting in Meenakshi moving out with the kids. Parveen would come to meet her frequently and the two would end up in a fight again. And it happened exactly the same way, the night Meenakshi was murdered.
It is really heart-wrenching to see kids as small as 10 years old and 4 years old having to witness something like this. One can’t even imagine the intensity of damage this would have caused in the little one’s psyche. While nothing can fill the void, we can only hope that the counselling will help the kids overcome this difficult time.
