I remember the time when we dreaded even talking eye to eye with our teachers in school. Even though we had a cordial relationship with some as we grew up, the thought of abusing them or assaulting them never crossed our minds.
But this video that just went viral reflects the sad state of affairs in the country. In the clip, some students of High School Nallur in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district in Karnataka are seen ragging the teacher to the extent of putting a dustbin over his head.
According to The Indian Express, 59-year-old Hindi teacher, Prakash Bogar, was teaching Class 10 students when six of them allegedly started assaulting him. They even had the audacity to capture this sight and post it online.
As soon as the officials got hold of the viral video, they rushed to the school. Testifying the incident, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Thippeshappa G R said, “The incident took place on December 6, but Prakash neither brought it to the notice of the staff, nor was the headmaster informed. It was only after the videos went viral that it came to my notice. I informed the Deputy Commissioner and went to the school.” He further added that they spoke to Bogar and a complaint was filed against the students.
The case took a 360° turn when the victim teacher took the students’ side who misbehaved with him.
“They are still young and they have done a mistake. No need to hand them over to the police or dismiss them from class. This is a lesson for them and they will be better.”
In a viral video, some students were seen misbehaving with a senior teacher, assaulted him with a dustbin. "Assault on the teacher will not be tolerated. I've instructed to take appropriate action," tweets BC Nagesh, Primary & Sec Education Min

When Bogar’s son Deepak asked him why was he supporting the kids who insulted him, he said that he will be retiring next year, but those students still have a bright future which he didn’t want to spoil. The students in question have apologized for their actions and their parents have also been warned.
People online condemned the students’ actions and demanded stringent punishments for them.
Future goondas are getting trained, need correction through law and make them apologise in morning prayer for a month, such behaviour of disrespecting the Guru is unacceptable, who is treated like God (Matha, Pitha, Guru, God)🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 @CMofKarnataka @EduMinOfIndia @DgpKarnataka https://t.co/BEGfoNKWuk

That's disturbing. Should teach students to behave first. Education is not just mugging up some books. https://t.co/zGENvbVojp

We understand that if a case will be registered against the culprits, their future would be compromised but such kind of nuisance with anyone shouldn’t be tolerated. What do you think?
