If You Thought Kareena Kapoor Was Too OTT As Poo In K3G, This Is Who You Should Blame!

What makes a movie great, again? Good storytelling, memorable characters, relatable dialogues you can quote to death and an enthralling music score. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham or K3G, Karan Johar’s ode to familial love, was all of these things. Maybe more. With a stellar all-star ensemble cast and KJo’s Midas touch, could it be anything lesser?

Well, K3G turned 16 today, and we’d all like to say Shava Shava to that! But no one does emotional moments better than KJo, so we went and checked out how he was commemorating this day! Of course, he turned it into a major #ThrowbackThursday!

#16yearsofK3G……the age of innocence

A post shared by Karan Johar (@karanjohar) on

Would you look at the caption? He called it the age of innocence! Awww 🙂

You didn’t think Karan Johar would just stop at one post now, did you? He launched into a full on B/W behind-the-scenes photo series, showcasing some special moments from the shooting of K3G. And in the process, he made quite a revelation!

We all love Kareena Kapoor’s character Pooja Poo! Girls quote her. Boys want to take her to prom. She looks thin in black and takes gym class way too seriously. But once in a while, Poo becomes Parvati, sings bhajans, and will drop the snob act when faced with a Laddoo (read Hrithik Roshan).

Basically, Poo is India’s answer to Regina George from Mean Girls!

But if you thought Poo’s character was a little too extra, and that Bebo went kaafi OTT playing it, then don’t blame her. Blame Karan Johar! Why? Check out the caption on this BTS K3G post and you’ll know!

“Me overacting trying to teach Kareena what to do!!!”

Will you check out that expression KJo’s enacting? Bebo nailed it in the actual shot but do you see how this man is totally responsible for the melodramatic Poo we know and love?

Need more proof? Here you go! That is indeed Karan Johar, playing Poo again, while Laddoo, sorry, Hrithik pouts pretty beside him!

It seems I was obsessed with Poo!!!! #16yearsofk3g

Also note, in the caption, the director admits how obsessed he was with Poo! We can totally imagine him enacting all the scenes, all of Poo’s OTT mannerisms, before each and every shot. Of course, Bebo is Bebo and she just made it even more better! And voila! We got one of the most memorable characters!

The director shared a couple more BTS pictures which totally got me all nostalgic!

That’s Karan and Farah Khan getting SRK all spiffed up for shooting a song! Can you guess which though?

Last minute adjustments #16yearsofk3g

SRK looked so handsome, it made me go all “Yeh ladka hai allah… hai hai re allah!” *wink*

If this hug that Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan shared in the climax of the movie didn’t make you cry, then you need to check your emotional quotient!

Today, even 16 years after we first fell in love with the Raichand family, the movie still holds a permanent place in our hearts.

Whether it’s on TV on a lazy Sunday, or its songs are playing at sangeet functions, or meme pages are obsessing over the forever PHAT Poo to the point of mild annoyance, you’ll still stop and look.

You can’t help it. Because Amitabh-Jaya, SRK-Kajol and Hritihik-Kareena. Because Rahul-Anjali. Because Poo. Because Ladoo. Because emotional title track and Anjali’s patriotism.

And because it is all about loving KJo’s brand of cinema! Hallelujah!
