Karan Johar Isn’t Happy With ‘Merry Christmas’ Clashing With ‘Yodha’ & He’s Vocal About it

Two big-budget or superstar-featuring films to release on the same date in India is nothing new. Films like Om Shanti Om and Saawariya were released on the same day and so did Lagaan-Gadar, Raees-Kabil, Dilwale-Bajirao Mastani, Don-Jaan-e-Man and many others. Even to this day, films like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ are releasing on the same day. While some filmmakers are okay with this, Karan Johar is not.

Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif’s film ‘Merry Christmas’, directed by Sriram Raghavan is releasing on December 15. So is ‘Yodha’, a Dharma Productions film starring Sidharth Malhotra and Disha Patani. When the poster and the release date for ‘Merry Christmas’ dropped online and KJo saw that it clashed with ‘Yodha’, he wasn’t happy and he let the world know.

Taking to Threads, Karan Johar expressed how films clashing on the same date without producers calling each other to inform them is a sad affair and will not work if the film fraternity is to move forward amidst challenging times.

“Clashing on a date without the courtesy of a phone call is hopefully not the way forward for the studios and producers …. If we don’t stand united in these tough and challenging theatrical days then calling us a fraternity is futile….” he wrote.

Do you think Karan Johar’s concerns are legit or can two big films survive after clashing on the same day in such testing times?
