Despite Being A ‘Bombay Girl’, Kajal Aggarwal Says Hindi Cinema Lacks Values & Discipline

Back in 2022, Indian actor Kajal Aggarwal tied the knot with bae Gautam Kitchlu at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. Then in April 2022, the actor gave birth to their first baby, a boy they named Neil.

From juggling between Bollywood and the film industries down South and then holding a baby in her arms, a lot happened in her life in the past decade. Recently, the ‘Kyun! Ho Gaya Na..’ actor reflected on life and everything in between during an interview with News18.

It was during this conversation that the actor shared why she started with a Bollywood movie.

“When I did ‘Kyun! Ho Gaya Na.’ I was in the 10th standard. I just did it because I thought ‘offer aaya, socha chalo jaakey Aishwarya Ji se miltey hai Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) se miltey hai. Wow, what an experience, I got to meet these people’. So, that was the only reason why I did the film.”

After she finished her Bachelors in Mass Media, she was offered her first role in a Telugu film. Sharing if the film industries in South India are more accepting, the actor said:

“South is very accepting, but there is no discount or shortcut to hard work. And there is no easy way to success.”

Talking about the conceptual difference between the Hindi and the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada film industries, she said:

“There are a lot of people who want to start their career in Hindi because it is a more nationwide recognised language. Yes, the South is a very friendly industry; it’s very accepting; there are fabulous technicians in the South, wonderful directors and phenomenal content generated over all four languages- Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.”

Talking about Bollywood, she said:

“And, of course, Hindi has been our mother tongue. We have grown up watching Hindi movies. It has been accepting and has been very kind to me as well. But I prefer the eco-system, the ethics, the values, the discipline of the south industry, which I feel is lacking in Hindi cinema.”

When asked about which industry she would return to for work after having the baby, Kajal said:

“I am a Bombay girl, born and raised. I started my career in the Hyderabad (Telugu) film industry, and the main body of my work is Tamil and Telugu films. I have done a few Hindi films, but the feeling of home is Hyderabad and Chennai, which will never go.”

However, her claim that Hindi cinema lacks ethics, values, and discipline didn’t go down well with people online.
