Judge Uses Poem Written By Delhi Girl To Award Life Imprisonment To Her Murderer

In a shocking incident that had taken place in Delhi’s Rohini area, a 17-year-old girl was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. According to reports, Shreya Sharma was choked to death by 19-year-old Sarthak Kapoor, on August 16, 2017.

However, the interesting part of the story lies in the fact that Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Bansal, took the help of a poem written by the girl barely hours before her death, to slam a death sentence on her murderer.

The poem was recited by Bansal himself before handing out the decision and it clearly identified Sarthak Kapoor as a ‘jilted lover’. In the statement, the judge mentioned that Sarthak went to the extreme to get Shreya back in his life but failed. Unable to cope up with the loss, he decided to ‘terminate’ the 17-year-old.

According to the Additional Public Prosecutor, Sarthak had confessed to his crime after Shreya’s parents filed a complaint. Further investigations threw light on the fact that Shreya went to Sarthak’s home to hand him a poem written by her a few hours before her demise. According to Indian Express, a part of the poem went like,

“I wish I were dead, every time I close my eyes, I see dark paradise. I am tired of being here, suppressed by my own fears… We went from playing with our toys to become toys ourselves. So boys will be boys and we women will never tell.”

This clearly acted as a strong proof of the point that Shreya was with Sarthak during the last few minutes of her life. Her body was found in a narrow lane near her residence by locals who informed the police and her family.

Adding to the shreds of evidence, judge Bansal also revealed an Instagram chat where Sarthak had expressed his desire to kill the girl. Justice was served to the teenager with the accused being handed a rigorous life imprisonment.

Thoroughly deserved.
