Maharashtra Villagers Name Locality After Irrfan Khan, Say He Helped Uplift Their Lives

The sudden death of Irrfan Khan was mourned by many people globally. Regarded as one of the legendary actors of Bollywood, Irrfan was a humble person who often helped those in need. While sadly the actor is now gone, his good deeds will live on forever.

Speaking of which, the villagers of Igatpuri renamed a locality to Hero-chi-Wadi to pay tribute to the late actor. Irrfan first arrived in Tringalwadi Fort in Igatpuri a decade ago to buy a plot of land for a weekend home, reports News18. The land was surrounded by a few Adivasi hamlets which lacked basic amenities like healthcare and education.

So, when Gorakh Bodke, a member of the Zila Parishad in Igatpuri and a local politician, asked Irrfan for help, the actor happily obliged. Gorakh, who often met the actor over lunches at a local dhaba, requested him to help fund an ambulance for the village. After promptly donating the ambulance for emergencies, the actor took a keen interest in the development of the region.

“Whenever we needed him, he stood by us. He gave us an ambulance, sponsored school structures and books for students,” Gorakh was quoted saying by India Today.

The villagers were grateful for his help and reciprocated his humility. Despite having no movie theatres for several kilometers, the villagers used to travel 30 km to watch his movies. In fact, the kids of the village didn’t miss a single film of the actor in the past 10 years.

“He was a guardian angel to so many families. He never said no whenever anyone asked for help,” Gorakh said.

Every year, Irrfan donated textbooks, raincoats, and sweaters to over 1000 students from tribal families studying in the village schools. He would even send villagers sweets during festivals. And, in order to encourage young children to have access to a digital world, he sponsored a dozen computers for them. The residents of the hamlets went into mourning when the news of his demise reached them.

So, as a tribute to the actor who helped uplift their lives, the villagers decided to rename the locality where his farmhouse was built. The name it Hero-chi-Wadi means the neighborhood of a hero. Well, honestly, the actor was sure a hero in both real & reel life.
