Irfan Clean Bowled A Pak Girl Who Asked Him Why He Plays For India Despite Being A Muslim

Every Indian cricket fan who has watched India play in the 2000s remembers Irfan Pathan as a wizard of swing bowling, whose name used to spark fears in the opposition camps. An extremely talented left arm pacer who was handy with the bat, Irfan solved a lot of problems of the team by cementing a place for himself at an early age.

A man with exceptional skills, Irfan usually performed best against tough opponents like Pakistan. Who can forget his hat-trick in the very first over of the test at Karachi or his test hundred against the neighbours at Bengaluru?

Speaking at an event in Nagpur, Irfan Pathan shared an interesting incident from when he toured Pakistan with the Indian team.

When the Indian cricket team was in Lahore for a match, a girl asked Irfan Pathan why he played for India despite being a Muslim. To which Irfan had a befitting reply,

“It is a matter of pride for me to play for India.”

Adding to his thoughts, Irfan said that incidents like these have helped him in his career to reach greater heights.

“That incident still motivates me to do better. Although there are many moments during my career that do give me reasons to feel proud of my effort.”

Irfan also revealed that getting the test cap from the then Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly during the 2003-04 ‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy’ is the most memorable moment of his career.

When he sported the Indian jersey, Irfan always added strength to both the bowling and the batting departments. He might not have played for India since 2012 but I sincerely hope that he makes a comeback and bowl us over with his exceptional cricketing skills yet again.
