TN Cop Chooses Duty Before Self, Leads Parade Before Attending Father’s Funeral

It is not uncommon for those in the line of duty to put service before self. On the occasion of India’s 74th Independence day, Inspector N Maheshwari of the armed reserve police in Thirunelveli district led the parade and presented the guard of honour to Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish and Police Superintendent N Manivannan at the Palayamkottai  VVC grounds despite getting news of her 83-year old father Narayanasamy’s death.

NDTV quoted Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam saying, “I express my deepest condolences on the death of the father of Nellai Armed Police Inspector N Maheshwari. On the occasion of Independence Day mourning the death of her father, Maheshwari led the march to fulfill her duty.”

According to Hindustan Times, the district police statement said, “Though she learnt of her father’s death on August 14 night, she went for the funeral only after completing the parade (on Saturday morning) with a sense of patriotism.”

The officer did not let her personal loss affect her duties, which she completed with grace and dignity before leaving for the last rites that were conducted in Dindigul district, over 200 kilometers from the city.

We extend our sincerest condolences to Ms. Maheshwari for her family’s loss and salute her sense of duty and courage.
