Indore Awarded The Cleanest City In India For The Third Year In A Row

The President of India, Mr. Ramnath Kovind, conferred the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2019 on Tuesday in Delhi.

Indore has bagged the award of the cleanest city in the country for the third year in a row, reported Business Today. The city retained its topmost position once again which was followed by Ambikapur in Chattisgarh at the second spot. Mysuru in Karnataka stood third.

Union Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Puri took to Twitter to congratulate the people of Indore:

Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh also won big at the awards ceremony. Ahmedabad won the award in the ‘Cleanest Big City’ category, while Ujjain won the title of ‘Cleanest Medium City’. West Bengal, however, was the only state to not participate in the exercise which is considered as the largest cleanliness survey in the country, said an official.

Raipur bagged the ‘Fastest Moving Big City’ award and Mathura-Vrindavan won the title of ‘Fastest Moving Medium Cities’. The other big winners include New Delhi Municipal Council area for ‘Cleanest Small City’category. Also, Uttarakhand’s Gauchar bagged the award for ‘Best Ganga Town’.

Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra emerged at the top three performing states in India in 2019 survey.

The winners were awarded a Mahatma Gandhi memento which is the utmost symbol of cleanliness and peace.

Acknowledging him, Kovind said, “Mahatma Gandhi had played a pivotal role in spearheading the movement of cleanliness. I hope people will take inspiration from the just-concluded Kumbh Mela and the level of cleanliness in it. The culture of cleanliness has to become an integral part of citizens’ lives.”
