From ‘Anna’ To ‘Dadagiri’, 70 Indian Origin Words Have Been Added To The Oxford Dictionary!

Did you know that 900 Indian origin words were already a part of the Oxford Dictionary? Well, they are. Just earlier this year words like Chana and Chana Dal were added to the dictionary were included.

Now, 70 Indian origin words have been added to the Oxford dictionary. From endearing words like Abba and Anna to Indian delicacies like gulab jamun and vada, they are all English words now too!

1. Amitabh Bachchan would be proud that his favourite BAS is an English word now!

2. Yeah, you can use chhi-chhi in your exams!

3. How could it be an Indian words list and jugaad not be there?

4. I got my hair cut from a nai: This is now a legit English sentence!

5. And so, I was doing timepass, is NOT Hinglish anymore!

With this recent addition, there are almost a thousand Indian origin words in the Oxford dictionary. So next time your English teacher says, “You will talk strictly in English in my class….” you can show her this list!
