To think about the best actresses to have come out of the Hindi film industry and not counting Jaya Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sen Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, and Deepika Padukone in the list seems like the wrong thing to do. Especially Jaya Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, considering the wide range of work they have done.
If you think about Rani Mukerji, she can play anything. From a relentless cop in ‘Mardaani’ to a portrayal of Helen Keller in ‘Black’, from a sex worker in ‘Saawariya’ to various shades of a woman in ‘Hum Tum’, she is one of the most talented actors we have.
However, in India Today’s list of ‘Hindi Cinema’s Best Actresses’ curated by film journalist Rajeev Masand, her name goes missing. And so does that of Jaya Bachchan.
The list includes Nutan, Smita Patil, Waheeda Rehman, Shabana Azmi, Meena Kumari, Rekha, Sridevi, Vidya Balan, Tabu, Kangana Ranaut and Alia Bhatt.
And while Kangana and Alia are good performers not gonna lie, they still have a lot of work to do.
And hence, people online who are avid movie watchers had a lot to say about the list. It’s almost as if the exclusion of some of the more talented female actors was taken personally by many who shared some pretty strong reactions! Have a look:
