Chained, Stripped And Sexually Assaulted: This Woman’s Story Will Hit You Where It Hurts!

hyderabad

We have, for long, discussed the debacle of women safety in our country. But unfortunately, there is no time left for discussions anymore. And there is definitely no time for any blame game, for a story has come to the fore and it will make you sick in the stomach. Sick, enraged and dejected. Just like I am.

A story that mocks human rights in its face and a story that no longer should stay just a story!

A 32-year-old woman was found disrobed and chained at a rehabilitation centre in Aramghar (retirement home), Hyderabad. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hyderabad

The woman who was found seated on a littered floor (littered with what seems like her own faeces) in the state home, has been identified as Renuka, alias Rinku. There are allegations that she was sexually assaulted by folks, she does not even recognise.

According to reports, she is a native of Bihar and was shifted to Aramghar in 2014, after she was rescued from the city streets by local cops on December 6.

Speaking to News Nation reporter Raj Kiran, Rinku has confessed that she has faced sexual harassment inside Aramghar for a long time now.

“When it gets dark, people come and lift my clothes up and touch me. I don’t know who it is because it was dark.

Once, I tried to hit them, and by mistake, I hit somebody else.”

After the incident came to the light, the police registered a case against Aramghar under section 342 of IPC – which deals with wrongful confinement.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Legal Services Authority intervened and directed that she be shifted to Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust (KGNMT). V Padmavathi, state head of KGNMT, said,

“The issue came to our notice on Saturday night. However, we are waiting for the court order to shift the woman to KGNMT as it is a sensitive case. It seems that the woman is mentally unstable. Even to get her treated, there is a need for an order.”

Not only is it a blatant disregard to the Mental Health Care Act, 2016, but the treatment meted out to her is barbaric. Hopefully, she will see justice.
