This Girl Was Rejected At A Job Because She Asked About Her Pay. Well Done, Society!

Workplaces have a trajectory, a definite track of disappointing realities that go on to mock and ridicule our hopeful expectations of working a dream job. No, I’m sure there are people who are pursuing their passion but I haven’t come across a better oxymoron from the time I heard, ‘happily employed’ (you thought only marriage fits the bill?).

But apart from the misplaced humour, there is a lot of apathy associated to work culture and behaviour that is deemed obligatory in an office environment. I know, you’re thinking about workplace harassment after recent events, while that is a pressing problem, there still exists an array that needs our notice.

To illustrate further, meet Taylor Byrnes, a woman from Winnipeg, Canada who had her interview cancelled because she dared to ask about her ‘wages/benefits’ in pre-interview exchange.

She later tweeted the screenshots of the conversation.

To which pat came the reply,

“Your questions reveal that your priorities are not in sync with those of SkipTheDishes.”

Also, the team shot up another mail, expressing their views about ‘concerns related to organisational fit.’ It is important to note, this wasn’t the first exchange upon the subject. Taylor had earlier had a satisfactory telephonic conversation about the job.

Needless to say, her voice echoed with many and Twitter bursts out with opinions!

2. Many a times!

Really? Just because she asked, in the most polite manner, about the claims that should have been given to her in the first place. I’m not sure if you realise but there are further implications to behaviour as such. Even in India many people are afraid, in fact, guilty to ask compensatory leaves and work offs, that they rightly deserve.

Wonder if this is ever gonna change!
