“Ghar Pe Bataa Ke Jana,” You’ve Heard It All Your Life, Now Get Ready For A Role Reversal

“Beta, ghar pe bataa ke jana.” Sounds familiar? No matter which part of the world you grew up in, you’ve heard some version of this countless times throughout your life. Right from when you were a kid, stepping out to play with your neighbourhood friends to when you’re an actual adult who’s got their affairs in order (somewhat at least).

It does get super annoying at times, doesn’t it? In an attempt to be a sensible adult, I’ve also tried looking at it from their perspective. Maybe, just maybe, I was the one acting like an angsty teen, I thought.

And though I’m yet to pick a side on that, I have a feeling pretty soon I might be the one saying “Ghar pe bataa ke jana!” to them. And guess what, people? You might have to too.
