Here’s A Breakdown Of All The Hidden Clues You Probably Missed In Episode 1 Of ‘GoT’ Season 8!

Warning: This post is dark and full of spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 1

We waited two whole years for Game of Thrones season 8 and boy it didn’t disappoint. The first episode had characters meeting for the first time (read: Sansa and Daenerys), some subtle flirting (*ahem* Arya and Gendry *ahem*) and inspiration for savage memes. But it also had hints and clues scattered around for fans to dissect. So we made a definitive list of ALL of them. Enjoy!

  1. Never seen before elements in the brand new opening credits!

Any fan worth his salt knows that the showrunners hide easter eggs in this sequence. The new one features:

  • The Wall with a gaping hole and ice advancing towards the Last Hearth (the now deceased Lord Umber’s territory which was overrun by white walkers).
  • A view of the crypts of Winterfell (where Jon Snow found out about his real parents).
  • Special focus on Qyburn’s ‘scorpion spear’ created to kill Dany’s dragons.
  • The iron throne with a Lannister sigil above it. This sigil might change to denote a shift in power so this is a key indicator of what’s to come.

2. New images on the revolving blades of the Citadel chandelier

They feature the red comet, dragons and 3 house sigils. Houses Lannister, Stark and Bolton. But with interesting details added. The lion seems to be eating a fish (House Tully), the Direwolf is pegged to a door between the twin towers (Red wedding) and the man is holding the head of a wolf.

3. Several scenes mirrored the pilot.

In the very first episode, a royal procession was marching towards Winterfell led by Robert Baratheon. Season 8 premiere also had one with Jon & Dany. A young boy climbs a branch to catch a better glimpse just like Bran did earlier. All the Starks lined up in the courtyard to welcome them (a direct throwback).

4. Daenerys saying, “We could stay a thousand years. No one would find us.” The wildling Ygritte said something similar to Jon in a cave north of the wall.

5. The white walker imagery/pattern.

The Night King pinned Lord Umber as well as human body parts in a strange symbol. This was earlier seen at the Fist of the First Men.

6. Arya’s special spear to be made from dragon glass

7. The final scene

Who can forget Jamie Lannister callously pushing Bran from a tower window in the closing scene of the pilot? This episode too ended with a reunion between the two.

Phew! That was a lot, right? What do you guys think of all the nostalgia and foreshadowing in the first episode?
